Newsletter Layout Editor
Job Description:
Responsible for producing the layout of three BRCLL Newsletters per year of approximately 16 to 24 pages, including live links for the online version that is posted to the BRCLL website, in accordance with criteria set by the BRCLL Communications Committee. This position reports to the BRCLL Newsletter Editor.
Specific Responsibilities:
Approximate hours every four months: 8-12

Assemble content according to pre‐established criteria with respect to length, content, formatting, etc.

Format as required.

Participate in Newsletter and Communications Committee meetings and collaborate with other Committee members to set policy and standards regarding the newsletter.
-
Develop and provide registration and membership forms to BRCLL Webmaster, as well as final draft of completed newsletter for posting on the website.

Provide design/layout expertise for other BRCLL communications as needed.
Knowledge/Skills:
-
Experience with newsletter formatting and size protocols
-
Experience with graphics software (Adobe, etc)
-
Experience with Word templates and/or Microsoft Publisher
-
Strong editorial skills (grammar, APA style, photos and graphics editing, layout editing, embedded links)

Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines
Communications Committee Chair
Job Description: BRCLL’s Communications Committee Chair is responsible for all communication development and implementation – web and print. This position reports to the BRCLL Board of Directors.
Specific Responsibilities:
Approximate Hours per Week: 10-15

Develop, implement, and evaluate BRCLL’s Communications Plan.

Develop and ensure conformance with branding standards for all BRCLL communications vehicles (logo usage, fonts, colors, page layout formats, etc.) so that the organization’s messages take on a consistent look and feel, and are readily recognizable by the public.

Generate web and print content, including press releases, that engages audience segments and leads to measurable action. Decide who, where, and when to disseminate.

Put communications vehicles in place to create momentum and awareness as well as to test the effectiveness of communications activities.
-
Manage the development, editing, formatting, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, brochures, annual report, e-newsletters and BRCLL’s website content.

Develop relevant website and newsletter content.
-
Serve as media contact, when required.
-
Attend 75% or more of Committee meetings.
-
Working with the Finance Committee, develop and manage the Committee budget.

Identify skill needs for the committee and work with the rest of the BRCLL team to find qualified volunteers to fill the needs.
Knowledge & Skills:

Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.

Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics.

Knowledge of communications planning and implementation, and budget planning, and management.
Webmaster/Electronic Communications
Job Description: Reporting to and in partnership with the Communications Committee Chair, the Webmaster will ensure that information on our website and other electronic communications are current and accurate.
Specific Responsibilities:
Approximate Hours per Week: 3-5

Assign newsletter content (3 xs per year) and other content on an as-needed basis to web team.

Each team member, using their HTML editor of choice, lays out their assigned pages, inserts appropriate links for more information and photos, and then uploads their files to the M@IN server (user ID/password required).

Once pages are loaded on the server, and prior to the launch of the new pages, the Webmaster
o makes sure all files are in their correct directories
o tests all new pages for consistency, broken links/photos, spelling, etc.
o sends test links to class facilitators and trip leaders for review and approval

On day of new page launch, the Webmaster
o makes final changes to link navigation to point to new pages
o double-checks all site-wide content and links to ensure no errors
o requests web team to review pages
o moves old files and images to archived folders
Other Webmaster/Electronic Communication Chair responsibilities:

Provide web usage statistics to BRCLL Board and Program Committee on regular basis

Maintain email subscriber list
-
Update homepage crawl and web pages on an as-needed basis

Respond to submitted emails addressed to the webmaster from the BRCLL web pages or subscriber emails

Send out mass emails to BRCLL subscriber list on an as-needed basis
Knowledge & Skills:
• Demonstrated excellence in organizational and communication skills
• Basic HTML
• Basic web skills and FTP understanding
Support: Training for using the M@IN FTP server will be provided.
