About The Blue Ridge Center for Lifelong Learning
The Blue Ridge Center for Lifelong Learning (BRCLL) was established at Blue Ridge Community College in January 1991. Expand your mind and horizons
-
We inspire our members to stay intellectually active by providing a wide variety of educational and cultural classes and activities geared to older adults.
-
Classes varying in length from two to 12 hours, usually in two hour meetings, are held on the campus of the Blue Ridge Community College (BRCC), or off-site.
-
Class topics cover a variety of subject areas including the arts, science, history, and other topics of interest to our members. Included in these classes is the Great Decisions Lecture series from the Foreign Policy Association and World Affairs Council.
-
Tours of local industries and places of educational and cultural interest, such as one or two day trips to theaters and museums are also offered.
-
The organization usually offers a three or four day retreat, where members are exposed to local culture, music and crafts.
-
The bulk of the work is accomplished by volunteers who arrange for the classes and trips, compose the newsletter, maintain the website, determine the interests of the members and account for the finances.
-
We encourage everyone to be a part of the Blue Ridge Center for Lifelong Learning community by volunteering to the program, because of our belief that volunteering provides a sense of ownership and every hand helps enrich our educational offerings.
Any person having an interest in the mission and activities of this organization may become a lifetime member for a fee of $70 a year. Members can attend a variety of courses for a nominal fee and also participate in travel opportunities.
