Join us on this gastronomic excursion entwined with educational stories about southern traditions and the history of the Dark Corner (an area in the corner of NC, SC, and down to Greenville which has some moonshine history, civil war history and quite a sordid past). We will have Mr. Dean Campbell, who is known throughout the area as the Squire of the Dark Corner, as narrator for this event. Mr. Campbell has produced a historical documentary on the Dark Corner which appears on The Documentary Channel as well as SCETV. He also teaches at Furman University. You will meet the chefs and owners who create innovative twists on favorite Southern dishes prepared especially for you. As a bonus, they will provide a history of each special recipe.

This will be a progressive lunch. We will start at the Stone Soup Restaurant in Landrum, S.C. for the first part of the meal where they will be preparing fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese, slab bacon and pepper jelly. Our second stop will be at The Southside Smokehouse. Here you will be given a tasting of two entrees and the beverages that accompany them. They always have a new surprise. Our next visit is the Harvest House where you will be treated to shrimp and grits, which is one of the signature dishes of the establishment. The final destination will be at Southern Delights for dessert. All of the restaurants are located in Landrum, only short distances from each other. Chances are, if you are an adventurer, a foodie, a historian, or fall into any other category, you will thoroughly enjoy this tour. The delightful cuisine will feed your body and the history will feed your mind!  What could be better!!

Carpool Option for Landrum Taste of the South Culinary Tour

The Blue Ridge Center for Lifelong Learning (BRCLL) has decided to try a new idea only for the Taste of the South Culinary Tour.  We are going to set up a “test” car-pool option for this one self-drive tour. We have had requests for this option in the past and have decided to see if we can make it work.

PLEASE NOTE: You are cautioned not to sign up for this tour based on the fact that you might be able to get a ride with someone, as our trip cancellation policy will remain intact. This is a test, applicable only to this self-drive trip. If it works well we may incorporate it into our available options permanently.

As part of your registration for this tour, you will be asked to check a box that indicates your willingness to take passenger/passengers with you, your preference not to take passengers, or to indicate if you would like to ride with someone if possible. This is totally voluntary. If you prefer not to, or are unable to take anyone, it is not a problem. This is not sanctioned by BRCLL.  It is simply an EdVentures Committee effort to potentially set up transportation options for attendees.

We will share phone numbers between the willing parties and you will do the rest. We are merely facilitators. We will not function as intermediaries, nor will we intervene in any disputes. If you check the block for riding with another person, we will still consider you as a registrant for the trip, whether or not you are successful in getting a ride. It is recommended that the passenger offer to pay a minimum of $5.00 to defray the cost of transport.
